FAQ's
This is YOUR session. Speak up!
Why is this so important? If you want anything changed: pressure, areas worked, position or if you are too hot or too cold ... speak up!
You will not hurt my feelings by asking for something that will make you more comfortable. I want this to be the best experience for you to relax and enjoy.
Also, what you requested in one session may be different in another. If you had a full body massage last time you had a session, but this time you only want your back/neck/shoulders/arms worked, it's perfectly fine to ask.
You will enjoy your sessions so much more!

1. What should I expect during my first visit?
I will require you to fill out a health history form. Afterwards I will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on and if there are any conditions needing to be addressed. You will then receive your treatment.
2. Where will my treatment take place?
I work from a warm, comfortable, quiet treatment at the rear of my garden. It has a separate reception area and washroom/toilet facilities. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a massage couch especially designed for your comfort.
3. What do I wear during my Massage treatment?
Privately you will be asked to undress (but remain wearing pants/knickers) and to position yourself under towels/sheet on the massage couch. I will only re-enter the room when you are comfortable and covered. You will be covered with a sheet or towels at all times except the area being worked on.
4. What do I wear during my Reflexology treatment?
Apart from removing your shoes and socks you remain fully clothed.
5. What do I wear during my Indian Head Massage treatment?
Indian head Massage is undertaken seated and can be either fully or partially clothed. If partially clothed you will be asked to remove clothes from above the waist and you will be given a towel or body wrap to wear across your chest.
6. What do I wear during my Thermal Auricular Therapy treatment?
You will remain fully clothed throughout your treatment.
7. What do I wear during my Back, Neck and Shoulder treatment?

8. What do I wear during my Tropic Skincare Facial treatment?
Privately you will be asked to undress (removing clothing for the 30min treatment that will allow me to massage arms, hands, chest and neck and removing all clothing but remain wearing pants/knickers for the 60min and 75min treatments). You will position yourself under towels/sheet on the massage couch. I will only re-enter the room when you are comfortable and covered. You will be covered with a sheet or towels at all times except the area being worked on.

10. How will I feel after my treatment?
For all treatments most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage and reflexology, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your treatment.
11. How often should I have a treatment?
Just one treatment can often make a real difference to how you are feeling. That said, it’s often more effective to have a course of regular treatments. This may be weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on your needs. A treatment plan will be discussed with you, and reviewed as necessary. This will always be subject to your own preferences, and can be changed at any time according to progress.
12. How many sessions will I need?
Honestly, it’s hard to say. Every person is unique and every condition is unique to each person. It may take one session or it may take several. I will be able to talk more specifically about this after your first session and I have had a chance to evaluate your body's tissues.
13. Do you play music?
During the treatment you are encouraged to switch off and enjoy the deep relaxation. A busy mind can often create quite a distraction in a silent room so I do play gentle music during the treatments to help facilitate relaxation. The music I choose is created specifically for this purpose and so it’s unlikely you’ll recognise any of the tracks or distracted by lyrics. Of course, if you prefer treatments can be carried out in silence – just mention this to me before you start.
14. Why do you have to ask about my medical history and medication?
Holistic treatments treat the whole person and can have an impact on any one of the body systems, be that lymphatic, cardiovascular or circulatory. As this is a hands-on treatment it’s important that I am aware of how you are and any ongoing problems or medication so that I can tailor the treatment accordingly. If you are in any doubt as to if you should be receiving a treatment you can seek permission from your doctor who will be able to clarify if the treatment is appropriate for you.
15. What if I am pregnant or think I might be? Is it safe for me to have a treatment?
Massage during pregnancy can be hugely beneficial to both mother and baby. It's perfectly safe for you to receive massage after 16 weeks. It's best to mention what stage you are at when you book your treatment so I can be prepared.16. Why should I avoid alcohol or caffeine after a treatment?
Drinks like alcohol and coffee dehydrate the body so should be avoided. You also might feel slightly lightheaded after your treatment so adding alcohol into the equation won't help. Instead drink lots of water to help flush out toxins and waste materials. Herbal teas are also beneficial, as is rest and relaxation and light meals that your body will find easy to digest.
17. How will I feel after my treatment? Will I be ok to drive?
Holistic treatments can have a deeply relaxing effect on the body. Sometimes clients can feel a bit drowsy after the treatment so it’s best to sit and have a glass of water as you bring yourself back into the space. It’s also likely that you’ll feel dehydrated so it’s really important to take lots of water on board. Sometimes, it might be that unexpected feelings or emotions arise during or after a treatment so be sure to take time to ease yourself back into real life after the session.
18. Do you have parking?
Hallyburton Road has light touch parking 11-12 and 6-7pm. ReTreat does have a drive and this can be used at all times. Parking permits can also be bought to cover the times, this is also free parking at the local Aldi store (5min walk) for up to 90mins.
19. I don’t drive, I use public transport. Is that going to be tricky?
No, I am 5 mins walk from Portslade train station and from local bus stops. The number 2 bus runs up Olive Road (at the end of Hallyburthon Road), the 49 bus runs to Portslade Train station and the 6 & 46 buses drop off at Carlton Terrace (the end of Hallyburton Road).
20. How do I pay for my treatment?
Payments can be made by cash, card, BAC or cheque made payable to ReTreat.
21. Do you offer Pregnancy Massage?
Yes.
22. Do you do home visits?
For some clients I am willing to treat at home. Please contact me to discuss.
23. When should I turn up for my appointment?
I am fortunate that the treatment room has a small reception area so please feel free to arrive prior to your treatment to relax. If I am treating a client the main door to the treatment room will be shut. Please make yourself comfortable and wait for me to finish my client. Your treatment time includes consultation so turning up a few minutes early is recommended.
24. What do I wear during my Scar Therapy treatment?
Depending on where the scar is will depend on what you wear. I will need to work directly on the scar and as a result you will be asked to remove clothing. Comfort and discretion are very important.
